I painted this canvas to capture the ultrasound that I was sent. Sophie Grace Hughes was born on February 9th 2026. Sophie was born with a birth defeat called Trisomy 18 or Edwards Disease, which is a severe genetic condition cased by an extra copy of chromosome 18. It can lead to significant development delays, congenital heart defects and low birth weight. I painted the mother this painting before she was born to hold close to her heart in the worst case scenario. Leading up to her birth she has an enlarged heart and a possibility of disformed hands and feet. Sophie was born with a cleft lip and no other developmental issues. She was born at 3 pounds and is doing as well as she can. She is a miracle baby and is slowly growing!
